Big Big local fun for Laurel V!

Hi, Laurel!

Since you like to have a bunch of fun, we thought we'd cook up some fun ideas to help you find the cool stuff to do around here.  Check back often, as we'll be updating this with new events, concerts, and happenings as we learn about them. Cheers to you & some fun living...

Concerts & Stuff

The Big Big SLO Calendar always has something cool happening for music & a little bit of art, etc.

Some specific events Jessica recommends:

Bike Night

These crazy folks all get together on the 1st Thursday of the month & swarm downtown SLO after Farmers Market with a different theme each night.

Arts Obispo

Arts Obispo has a bunch a cool artsy stuff happening around here.  Open Arts Studio Tour is an annual event in October taking 2 weekends and coordinating hundreds of open studios to check out.  There are over 30 here in Osos alone!  They also have "Art after Dark" the Fist Friday of every month in Downtown SLO.  All the studios are open and many have free wine & treats & sometimes some live music as you check out the latest art works.

Improv Comedy - Ignite Movement Studio - Sunday nights

Our friend Shawna (lead singer of Captain Nasty) has a fun art / music / dance studio in Morro Bay called Ignite Studio. Sunday night improv comedy looks fun - maybe some other stuff, too...

Foremost Wine Company

Foremost is a hip, upscale restaurant & bar at the Creamery across from Spikes.

Thursdays at Foremost...it's kind of a big thing in SLO! Cool Beats, Good Eats, Fabulous Drinks. Happy Hour from 4-6:30pm with food & drink specials starting at $5 and DJ Malik doing what he does from 5-8pm. (Malik is one of the best DJs in the county - hands down.)

Bang the Drum Brewery - SLO

This is a cute little brewery / community hang spot featuring live music, trivia, DJ nights, African drumming, Salsa night, etc.  They're a little hit-or-miss on listing what's actually happening, so maybe a phone call might be the trick.

African Drum Class - Monday Nights in Los Osos

Our friend Tim Costa is a very good percussionist & leads a drum group.  All levels & fun folks getting together Monday evenings for class & group drum jam.  Call Tim Costa at 805-801-9077 or email at timcosta@gmail.com to get involved.

Barrelhouse Speakeasy

This location is right next to Luna Red on Chorro in SLO, and has fun DJ parties & live music.  DJ seems to be every other Thursday at 7:30. Live music on Wednesdays.

Left Coast Art Studio - Workshops & Open Studio in Los Osos

This is the cute little studio on the side of Celia's Garden Cafe.  Owner Katie Bariel is putting together classes & workshops with guest artists for small groups.  Looks like a fun, cozy atmosphere. 6-8 people max per session, and if you want to learn about something, she'll find an artist specializing in the topic & put together a group.

Glass Cottage - Baywood Park

This is the glass studio next to the Market in Baywood.  Artists Larry LeBrane & Rod Baker lead classes on blown & fused glass, and they're cool people seeming to have fun with their art.  Maybe a good way to check them out is on Mondays - they're always open for visitors from 12:00 - 4:00.

The Station - SLO

These guys are always up to hip wine tasting, themed DJ dance parties, etc.

Beer at the Pier - Baywood

This is my weekly Baywood concert event.  Every Monday from 5:00 - 7:00.  From May through October it's outside at Back Bay Cafe, and from November through April we do it inside at La Palapa.  It's turned into the  big social hour for the community. Always good music, and an opportunity to get to know lots of fun loving locals.
