Great show up in Paso on Friday!
Songwriters At Play presents two contemporary folk bands in concert -- San Francisco's Misner & Smith, and Central Coast favorite Erin Inglish with Dylan Johnson and Jennings Jacobsen. Each band will play a full 45-minute set, with special guests, a duo called An Ode to Be, opening the show with a short set at 7pm.
Erin Inglish is always coming up with new collaborations -- this time, Erin is accompanied by bassist Dylan Johnson, Cuesta College music professor who performs regularly with Inga Swearingen. Erin grew up on the Central Coast in a household of musicians (Mom played viola, and Dad is a professional accordion player with SLO's Cafe Musique). She picked up the banjo at the age of 17 when she moved to Berkeley to become an engineering student, and subsequently studied folk and bluegrass music with numerous great Bay Area musicians. She is also the organizer of the largest collaborative project in the world among female banjo players – the Banjo Babes Calendar & Showcase Album. More at www.erininglish.com
Sam Misner and Megan Smith met as actors, first in a Shakespeare play, and later in a musical "Woody Guthrie's American Song". The two have acted in the play over a hundred times around the country, and began to form a musical partnership based on a mutual love of roots music, and in particular, harmony singing. Crafting songs rich in meaning and texture, Misner & Smith’s sound is anchored by their unique vocal harmonies and evocative lyrics. Their latest album is called "Seven Hour Storm" -- tracks are posted at http://misnerandsmith.com/listen/
